Inspiring Nepal with CPR & First Aid Training
Nepal is a truly amazing place. It is full of enlightenment and is an inspiration to everyone who journeys there.
The community surrounding Thames College in Kathmandu is currently in the process of setting up their first international American Heart Association training center in Kathmandu. The Disque Foundation was honored to support the effort by providing CPR, AED, and First Aid training to inspire those who have so inspired to the world.
With the help of CPR mannequins, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) Dr. Karl “Fritz” Disque taught the importance of performing high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as well as basic first aid instruction to a passionate group of local staff and students.
The students and faculty of Thames College welcomed Fritz with generosity and passion. Fritz was touched by their sincerity and gratitude… in fact, he felt whole-heartedly embraced.
“Thank you so much for your hospitality yesterday. You have an amazing college, students, staff, and city!” – Dr. Disque
Cardiac arrests are unfortunately more common than people often think. Therefore, CPR and first aid training should be more common than practiced today. Deaths due to cardiac arrest are sometimes preventable, resulting from a lack of proper CPR. It’s up to people like the enthusiastic students and staff of Thames College to prevent the unnecessary deaths of victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
Think about this: Do you consider yourself a lifesaver? While some believe this almost impossible, anyone can save a life with proper CPR training. Many people are merely unaware of the impact quickly performing high quality CPR can have. A CPR-certified bystander has the skills to save potential victims of cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, 70 percent of those trained in CPR do not know how to react when an emergency situation actually occurs. By training to quickly take effective action, the life saved could be that of a spouse, friend or relative.
Fritz said he is optimistic that his presentation and training with the Thames College will continue to benefit the community even after the demonstration. When one person is CPR and first aid trained, the individual is empowered to spread the vital knowledge to others. The American Heart Association (AHA) and Disque Foundation want every CPR-trained individual to teach as many people as they can.
The Disque Foundation inspires others to live inspired lives. Fritz and the rest of the team at the Disque Foundation are thankful for the opportunity to inspire and be inspired by audiences such as those at Thames College.
