Week in Review: Teaching a Fraternity House CPR and Bakenight at RMH

November was certainly a month of reflection for the Empowerment Team at the Disque Foundation. We celebrated the month with gratitude for the non-profit organizations and the dedicated individuals and teams that have collaborated with us, advancing our mission to empower more people to save a life throughout the entire year of 2016 and leading up to 2017.

Ronald McDonald House Holiday Bake Night

One of the first organizations our founder, Dr. Karl “Fritz” Disque, worked alongside with was Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. Since their meeting half a decade ago, RMH has continued to invite the Empowerment Team to volunteer with their staff, children and families. Recently, we participated in a holiday bake night with some of the children and families at RMH of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. The children (and the team of course) had a blast decorating cookies and cakes with frosting, sprinkles and holiday baking decorations to commence the month of December!

CPR Training for Indiana University’s Evans Scholars Fraternity House

In addition to serving with RMH, we were also able to expand our mission in numbers through CPR, AED & First Aid training. Our medical educator, Lauren, taught the students at Indiana University’s Evans Scholars Fraternity CPR and AED training for adults, children and infants. The Chick Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies, who select students based on their strong caddie record, excellent grades and outstanding character. They are a group of people connected by their sense of pride, determination and community, similarly to our team here at the Disque Foundation.  Lauren is an Evans Scholar herself, so she felt called to share the life saving knowledge of basic life support to a demographic that may need it the most, her fraternity brothers and sisters. The students at Indiana University Evans Scholar House are now better prepared to act in an emergency on their college campus!
