Translating Content into Spanish and Saving Lives

Spanish blogOver the past few months, the Disque Foundation team has been hard at work translating its written materials into Spanish and happily now all Disque handbooks, posters and apps are available to Spanish-speakers.

Disque’s mission is to provide healthcare education for everyone, no matter where they live or what language they speak. And, by providing advanced healthcare education to underserved populations around the world we are getting closer to our goal of empowering one million people to save a life by the year 2020. This mission is behind Disque’s ongoing dedication of time and resources to making its materials accessible to as wide a range of the population as possible.

New Spanish Resources Available

Do you know Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)? Usted conoce la RCP? Whether you have been trained in CPR and need a refresher, or you never completed training, the Disque team has you covered!

Our free CPR poster was recently translated and contains everything you need to know about CPR. This poster gives a visual breakdown of how to perform CPR in adults and children, and it includes important details on how to properly perform chest compressions. Whether you are learning Spanish or it is your native language, this Spanish CPR poster is a great resource. It can empower you to save a life!

If you’re looking for a more detailed layout of CPR, the Disque Foundation has myriad resources available including a CPR, AED and First Aid handbook and eBook now all available in Spanish. Additionally, Disque offers a Spanish version of its Basic Life Support (BLS) handbook, PDF and eBook. All of Disque’s handbooks comply with the latest American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, and each contains all the information necessary if you want to become CPR certified. Included in the handbooks are review questions so you can be well-prepared for your certification. Using review questions like these can help keep CPR and BLS skills fresh in your mind. It is important to review and stay up-to-date with your life-saving skills and certifications. All of these Spanish resources can be found at NHCPS.com, our partner in the Save a Life Initiative.

Our Updated App Helps You Save Time in an Emergency

Our free app, Medicode, is an easy and quick way for everyone to learn how to save a life! Medicode puts all of the AHA’s best practices for how to deal with an emergency situation into the palm of your hand. Medicode is available in the app store and the google play store.

Now available in Spanish, Medicode offers algorithms and practice tests so that you are prepared to save a life.

Individual algorithms available:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • CPR, AED and First Aid

After downloading the Medicode app you will be much more prepared to face a crisis situation. Medicode helps you navigate these situations by running you through a series of timed questions. The purpose is to apply pressure on the user to make quick and decisive decisions, and that can mean you have a chance to save the life of someone experiencing cardiac arrest or a host of other emergencies. Medicode replaces physical, expandable (and cumbersome) cards that health care professionals and emergency workers often carry with them as reference tools. This free app makes it easy to quickly find the right approach to an emergency situation.

Making Strides in the Spanish Community

The Disque Foundation was happy to be featured on Azteca Wisconsin 38 with Ruth Diaz TV. Diaz demonstrated how to perform CPR and AED on adults.

In addition to translating materials into Spanish, the Disque team works tirelessly to bring these Save a Life materials to those in need. Thanks to a partnership with National Health Care Provider Solutions (NHCPS), Disque Foundation trained 3,000 people across Mexico thanks to its free online courses including ACLS certification, PALS certification, BLS certification, CPR, AED and First Aid certification and Bloodborne Pathogens certification. Disque’s partnership with NHCPS has greatly furthered our mission to provide free health care education around the world. Disque is now closing in on its goal to empower one million people to save a life by the year 2020.

Our team will continue working to make even more of the Disque Foundation’s site accessible to the Spanish-speaking population. One current project is translating megacodes into Spanish, and we are looking to expand our Spanish course material so more people can be empowered with more life-saving skills! The Disque Foundation will always be committed to making its courses and resources available to anyone who wants to learn how to save a life.

Thank you for furthering the life-saving work of the Disque Foundation. Looking for more ways to give back? Visit our Ways to Give webpage to become a committed supporter. We greatly appreciate donations of any amount. Every dollar helps empower more people to save a life.
