Celebrating 6 Million Lives Empowered: Meet Mohammed Motasim, a Teenage Volunteer Saving Lives with Passion

In July 2012, we embarked on a mission to offer advanced healthcare education worldwide at no cost. That same year saw the inception of the Save a Life Initiative, a vital tool in achieving our goal. Through our collaboration with Save a Life Certifications by NHCPS, the Disque Foundation pioneered free, accessible online life support training courses, a groundbreaking endeavor.

In 2020, the most significant advances in our mission occurred as we hit two and then three million lives empowered in a single year. In April, we were honored to have given away $100 million in free certifications through our partner SaveaLife.com. Year after year, our Save a Life Initiative has experienced exponential growth, empowering an increasing number of individuals globally.

We have impacted over 6 million lives across 187 countries up to date, and we continue counting. This achievement was made possible by the collective efforts of every individual who has supported our foundation throughout its inspiring journey of saving lives.

Saving Lives Through The Passion Of Volunteerism

Mohammed Motasim stands out as an inspiration of hope and compassion. Mohammed MotasimAt the age of 17, Mohammed’s journey from Sudan to Saudi Arabia is a testament to his unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.

He was born to a family where service runs in their veins, Mohammed’s parents – his mother, a Math Teacher, and his father, a Nurse – inspired him with the values of empathy and selflessness from an early age. When he was a child, he used to go to the hospital where his father worked as a nurse. He could see how he worked in the ER, and it made him feel surprised and curious at the same time. He loved medicine for two reasons: his father’s work and his love for helping others. Sometimes, his father treats neighborhood residents who cannot pay in hospitals for free. This is what strengthened his love of medicine and passion for saving lives.

It’s no surprise that Mohammed felt an instant connection to the remarkable work of the Saudi Red Crescent and knew he had found his calling.

For almost three years now, Mohammed has been a vital part of the Saudi Red Crescent, tirelessly devoting his time and skills to aid those in need. Equipped with first-aid techniques, Mohammed has been instrumental in critical situations, from controlling bleeding to providing essential medical assistance in saving lives.

But Mohammed’s thirst for knowledge and desire to excel didn’t stop there. Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, he turned to online courses by Save a Life by NHCPS to further enhance his medical skills. Despite facing challenges with the English language, Mohammed’s determination to understand the BLS course and other courses only fueled his passion for saving lives.

How a 17-year-old Save a Life By Performing CPR

One unforgettable moment shines bright in Mohammed’s many times volunteering  – a touching event during last year’s Eid Al-Adha celebrations. In the middle of happy festivities, Mohammed and his team got a sudden call for help about a young woman having a heart attack. Without hesitating, they rushed to help.

In the busy event, Mohammed stayed calm and determined. He quickly started doing CPR, a technique to save someone’s life. The woman’s heartbeat returned because of his quick actions and determination. Thanks to Mohammed’s caring and actions, everyone watched in awe as life triumphed over death.

After the crisis was over, Mohammed and his team acted fast again. They made sure the woman got to a hospital safely and started her journey to getting better as soon as possible.

Inspiring Commitment to Service and Humanity

Balancing being a volunteer while studying, Mohammed shows dedication and resilience. Despite the school obligations, he remains focused on his commitment to serving his community every Friday.

As he dreams of becoming a doctor, his advice to fellow emergency medical service providers resonates deeply—to stay calm in any emergency, as it is a crucial situation between life and death.

Mohammed Motasim is not just a volunteer but an example of humanity’s kindness and selflessness. Thank you, Mohammed, for participating in our Save a Life Initiative and sharing your story with us and the world! We know you will continue to spread your knowledge in saving lives!
