Catherine at the Glorious Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania

Catherine Hickey has been serving alongside the Disque Foundation team since the beginning of its foundation in the mid-2000’s. Her involvement with the foundation was initiated during her academic years at Purdue University, where she met current Director, Dr. Karl “Fritz” Disque. Fritz and her both participated in Purdue’s Cooperative Housing system, and became lifelong friends with a mutual passion for making a difference in the lives of those living in underserved areas of the nation and world.

Catherine has spent many years volunteering with the Disque Foundation at Ronald McDonald House, where she felt a strong calling to serve children. In 2010, she spent 3 months in Arusha, Tanzania at the Glorious Orphanage, where she saw first hand the impact educational opportunities and health care can provide to a population. Since her work with the orphanage, Glorious Orphanage has grown from a two room school (pictured below) in 2009 into a campus serving over 300 children and growing in Tanzania and Guatemala. Catherine is currently a sponsor of the orphanage and plans to return soon.

Catherine has been in the commercial banking industry for over 13 years in the Chicago area, and currently works as the vice president of Standard Bank and Trust. Outside of the office, she serves as the current Women in Banking Chair for the Risk Management Association Chicago Chapter. In her free time, she enjoys staying active by traveling and practicing yoga, and is an avid volunteer participant in the Chicago Marathon.
