Dr Burbella in Iraq

Dr. Douglas Burbella brings over 35 years of medical knowledge and experience to our team. As a missionary medical doctor, Dr. Burbella has worked abroad in various hostile environments such as in Iraq, India and Africa.

Dr. Burbella started his medical journey as an EMT, then a paramedic, all while commercial scuba diving on his days off. His interest in alternative medicine sparked an interest in massage therapy, which he practiced before starting a three year complimentary medicine program, where he met his loving wife.

After the program Dr. Burbella practiced oriental medicine in Florida and then practiced naturopathy for years in Ontario, Canada, later focusing on IV therapies. He and his wife wanted to expand their knowledge even more so they decided to go to medical school where they earned their MDs together.
Dr. Burbella has been heavily involved with medical outreach. He played an instrumental role in coordinating medical relief and was on one of the first medical teams in Haiti following the devastating earthquake. He was also a part of a small medical team that worked in a church converted to a field clinic in Joplin, Missouri after the tornado that leveled the town. More recently, he was on the front lines with the Pershmerga soldiers as they fought ISIS in Iraq (pictured below).
